Sending Florida-Themed Christmas Cards: Share a Little Sunshine This Holiday Season
Who says Christmas cards have to feature snowflakes, snowmen, and snowy winter landscapes? In the Sunshine State, the holidays look a little different! Think partridge in a swaying palm tree, seven dolphins leaping, eight surfers surfing, twelve Santa’s sunbathing… well, you get the idea!
During my 26-years as a Florida resident I’ve discovered that sending Florida-themed Christmas cards is a fun way to share a little sunshine with family and friends, especially those who live in colder climates. So whether you’re a lifelong Floridian, a snowbird escaping winter, or simply someone who loves the tropical charm of Florida, a Sunshine State holiday card is a delightful way to spread Christmas cheer.
Why Send Florida-Themed Christmas Cards?
Christmas is a time for connecting with the people we love, and a thoughtfully chosen holiday card can make that connection even more special. Florida-themed Christmas cards offer a refreshing alternative to traditional winter scenes while celebrating everything that makes the holidays in Florida unique.
Imagine your friends opening their mailboxes to discover a Christmas tree decorated with sand dollars and seashells, Santa and Mrs. Claus strolling on a tropical beach, or a festive flamingo sporting a pink Santa hat. It’s a little unexpected, a little whimsical, and a wonderful reminder that Christmas magic can happen anywhere!
Florida-themed Christmas cards are especially fun for:
- Florida residents who want to celebrate the holidays Sunshine State style.
- Snowbirds and seasonal visitors who want to share their love of Florida with friends back home.
- Former Floridians who miss palm trees, warm weather, and beautiful beaches.
- Florida-loving family and friends who appreciate tropical humor and coastal charm.
- Businesses and bloggers who want to send clients, readers, or colleagues a memorable holiday greeting.

Fun Florida Christmas Card Themes
Looking for the perfect design? Florida offers plenty of inspiration for creative and memorable Christmas cards. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
1. Santa Claus Goes Tropical
Forget the snowy North Pole for a moment! Picture Santa wearing sunglasses, flip-flops, and a Hawaiian shirt while relaxing beneath a palm tree sipping a key lime colada.
A tropical Santa design is perfect for anyone who enjoys a little holiday humor. You might choose an illustration of Santa surfing on a beach, riding in a convertible with Christmas presents, driving a golf cart decorated for the holidays, or enjoying a warm Florida sunset with Mrs. Claus.
Pair the artwork with a greeting such as “Merry Florida Christmas!” or “Season’s Greetings from the Sunshine State!”
2. Pink Flamingos in Christmas Finery
Pink flamingos are practically unofficial celebrities of Florida-inspired décor. Dress them up in pink Santa hats, festive scarves with pink or red hibiscus, or strings of colorful Christmas lights for a playful holiday card.
Or consider a flamingo standing beside a miniature palm tree decorated with coastal-colored ornaments and starfish tree topper as another charming option. For an extra touch of Florida flair, choose a design with tropical flowers, seashells, or a beach-inspired background.
These whimsical cards are ideal for friends who love flamingos, coastal decorating, or anything a little outside the ordinary.
3. Palm Trees Instead of Christmas Trees
Who needs a traditional evergreen when you have palm trees?
Florida-themed Christmas cards featuring palm trees wrapped in twinkling white lights offer a beautiful blend of tropical scenery and holiday tradition. Some designs feature ornaments hanging from palm fronds. Or what about a real decorated Christmas tree placed on a sandy beach? (Though not abundant, real live Christmas trees are available in Florida!)
This theme works especially well for elegant coastal-themed cards, particularly when paired with soft sunset colors, turquoise water, and warm golden lights.
4. A Beachy Christmas Greeting
For many Floridians, Christmas means sunshine, ocean breezes, and perhaps a walk along the beach instead of shoveling knee-high snow.
Beach-themed Christmas cards may feature seashell wreaths, sand sculptures shaped like Christmas trees, starfish ornaments, or Santa’s footprints in the sand. You might even find designs showing a coastal cottage decorated with holiday lights.
Consider greetings such as:
- “Merry Christmas from Our Sandy Shores!”
- “Seas and Greetings from the Sunshine State!”
- “May Your Holidays Be Filled with Sunshine!”
- “Have a Beachy Christmas and a Happy New Year!”
Beach designs are especially meaningful for people who associate Florida with family vacations, retirement, or treasured seaside memories.
5. Florida Wildlife Celebrates Christmas
Florida’s wildlife offers even more inspiration for unique holiday greeting cards. Look for designs featuring manatees wearing Santa hats, sea turtles in the sand with painted shells, dolphins jumping through festive waves, or alligators dressed for the holidays.
A playful wildlife card can make recipients smile while celebrating Florida’s distinctive natural beauty.
For nature lovers, choose artwork that emphasizes Florida’s waterways, coastal habitats, and native wildlife rather than overly cartoonish characters.
Consider purchasing wildlife Christmas cards through non-profit organizations that support endangered or threatened species like the Florida manatee. (My visit to Manatee Lagoon in West Palm Beach was both memorable and very educational. You can read my Manatee Lagoon Review here. And, it’s one of the few free attractions in Florida!)

What to Write Inside Your Florida Christmas Cards
The right message can make a beautiful card even more thoughtful and memorable. Whether you prefer something heartfelt, funny, or distinctly Floridian, I’ve included a few suggestions to get you started.
For family and friends up north:
“Wishing you a wonderful Christmas filled with love, laughter, and a little Florida sunshine! We’re sending warm holiday hugs from the Sunshine State.”
For a humorous greeting:
“Hope your Christmas is merry, bright, and completely snow-free! Sending sunny wishes from Florida.”
For snowbirds and seasonal residents:
“Christmas is even sweeter when shared with wonderful friends. Wishing you sunshine, happiness, and a beautiful holiday season!”
For a coastal Christmas:
“May your Christmas sparkle like the ocean, shine like the Florida sunshine, and fill your heart with joy.”
For a simple, traditional greeting:
“Merry Christmas from Florida! May the New Year bring you peace, good health, happiness, and many wonderful adventures.”
Personalizing your message with a favorite Florida memory, a family update, or a photo from a recent beach outing can make your holiday greeting even more meaningful.

If you enjoy photography or creating your own designs like I do, you could even make a personalized Christmas card featuring your favorite Florida beach, a decorated palm tree, or a festive coastal scene. Remember those hundreds of photos from your Florida family vacation? That’s the perfect place to start! (Just be sure any artwork or photographs you use are your own or properly licensed for your intended use.)

When Should You Mail Your Christmas Cards?
Even a sunny Florida Christmas card needs to arrive on time!
For cards going to addresses within the United States, a good rule of thumb is to mail them in early to mid-December. If you’re sending a large number of cards or mailing internationally, allow additional time.
Personalized photo cards and custom-printed designs may take longer to produce, so order those early. Check the current USPS holiday mailing deadlines before sending your cards, especially if you are mailing internationally or using a slower shipping service.
And don’t forget to keep a few extra cards on hand for unexpected visitors, new neighbors, holiday parties, or someone you realize you’ve forgotten!
Make This Christmas a Little More Florida
One of the best things about sending Christmas cards is the opportunity to share a little happiness with the people who matter most. For Florida residents, Florida-themed Christmas cards make that tradition even more fun by combining the warmth of the holidays with the distinctive charm of the Sunshine State.
Whether you choose a flamingo in a Santa hat, a tropical Christmas tree, a beach scene sprinkled with holiday magic, or a beautiful photograph of a Florida sunset, your card can remind someone that Christmas doesn’t have to be cold to be wonderful.
So, this holiday season, skip the snow-covered rooftops if that’s not your style. Send a little sunshine instead!
Merry Christmas from Florida, and may your holidays be filled with love, laughter, and plenty of Sunshine State magic!
